Coaching vs. Mentoring: Understanding the Differences

Coaching and mentoring are often confused, but they serve different purposes. Understanding these distinctions can help you choose the right support for your needs.

Coaching is primarily focused on the present and future.

A coach works with you to identify your goals and develop strategies to achieve them. The process is client-driven, meaning you set the agenda and define what success looks like.

On the other hand, mentoring typically involves a more experienced individual sharing their knowledge and advice in a specific field. Mentors often provide guidance based on their own experiences, which can be valuable but may not always align with your unique journey.

Additionally, coaching does not address emotional difficulties or past traumas, which are often the focus of counseling or therapy. By recognizing these differences, you can make informed decisions about the type of support that best suits your personal and professional growth.
